MERCHANT TOOLS

Accepting Payment - Upfront you decide to handle payments either manually or automatically.  If you have a high-volume of purchases being made on your site, you may want to consider contracting with a Third Party Payment Processing Service.  Your choices are listed below:

 - The most common form of transaction processing is Email Merchant Processing.  Under this mechanism, your customer's payment information is emailed to you (secure information is kept secure), and you process the payment manually.  That is, if payment is made by credit card, you use your current method of credit card processing  to actually post and complete the transaction.  This method usually works well for small to medium size businesses.  This also accommodates payment via Electronic Check, Purchase Orders and Phone or Fax.

 - If your store generated thousands of transactions a day you will want to look into Payment Processing Services.  This shopping cart application currently supports 11 different services, and new ones are always being added, so you have many choices when it comes to this.  Basically, this means that you contract with a Third Party Payment Processing service that collects payment information for you and completes the transaction.  Payment is taken before you receive the purchase request.
